mht file type to set the default, like the other users reported, I get a choice of Internet Explorer or go to the Microsoft Store for an app. Just adding this … i wonder why Internet Explorer doesn’t show up in the Apps and Features list? Nor is it available from the Start Menu! If it doesn’t exist there, where is it and why is it being used? What’s different? I just updated Office 2016 (ashamed to say I’d not updated for a long time), from version 11601.20144 to 12730.20250. I NEVER had a problem with the “If there are problems with how this message is displayed, click here to view it in a web browser”, opening in IE11 until today! It used to always open with Firefox. Most links opened with my default/Firefox browser.

In the menu bar for firefox, there is an option to restart in safe mode, disabling all add-ons. If you attempt to reach the same site on another browser and dont run into the same issues, it could just be a problem with how the HSTS settings have. I have had the problem of the odd link within an Outlook email opening in IE11, and I just assumed that the source created their links in some ancient format. After trying ALL of the suggestions above, I finally pinned the culprit to all the extra add-ons that firefox has been installing. Default Web Browser – Firefox, latest version.
